January 27, 2008 - Caring for the Caregiver: Mind, Body and Spirit
Five Schweitzer Fellows organized the event which was held at First Assembly Baptist Church in Winston-Salem on January 27. Cathy Wilson, LCSW, from CareNet of the Triad spoke about pastoral care. Their nonprofit agency of licensed professionals provides confidential, compassionate counseling services with respect for personal beliefs and values. Dr. Suzanne Danhauer, Associate Director of Research and Development, Psychosocial Oncology & Cancer Patient Support Programs at Wake Forest School of Medicine, spoke about the importance of relaxation techniques and held a breathing session to show the benefits of a particular exercise. Schweitzer Fellow Kristen Daley, a PhD candidate at UNCC School of Psychology, discussed the causes of and possible ways to relieve sleep disorders. Lunch was provided and door prizes were given. Although attendance was low, fewer than 20 people, participants were fully engaged and felt they benefited greatly from the event.
